Angkor Wat is not only the most famous temple of Cambodia but also a surprising birding hotspot. The temple’s surrounding moat, gardens, and forest patches are home to more than 50 bird species. This tour is perfect if you have limited time but want to enjoy both wildlife and world-class history in one day.
Itinerary
5:30 AM – Hotel pick-up by bird guide and driver.
- Short drive to Angkor Wat for the best morning bird activity.
6:00 AM – 9:00 AM – Birding at Angkor Wat
- Explore temple grounds and surrounding forest for species like:
- Asian Barred Owlet
- Forest Wagtail
- White-throated Rock Thrush
- Hainan Blue, Taiga, and Asian Brown Flycatchers
- Common Kingfisher, Black-capped Kingfisher
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Angkor Thom Complex
- Visit the Bayon temple (famous for its smiling stone faces), Terrace of the Elephants, and Terrace of the Leper King.
- Look for birds along forest paths such as Greater Racket-tailed Drongo or Lineated Barbet.
12:30 PM – 1:30 PM – Lunch near the temples.
2:00 PM – 4:30 PM – Ta Prohm & Other Temples
- Explore the photogenic Ta Prohm with its giant roots and hidden corners.
- Continue birdwatching for species like Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker or Coppersmith Barbet.
5:00 PM – Return to hotel or drop-off at another Siem Reap destination.
